Welcome to the enchanting world of Costa Vella Garden Cafe, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Santiago de Compostela. Located at Rúa da Porta da Pena, 17, this delightful coffee shop is not just a stop for caffeine; it’s a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. As you step inside, you’ll be greeted by the inviting aroma of fresh brews and the soothing ambiance of a quaint garden.
Costa Vella boasts a picturesque garden adorned with actual grapevines growing above the seating area, creating a captivating atmosphere for your visit. Customers have consistently praised the vibe—the perfect backdrop for photo opportunities and moments of calm. Lauren Davidson highlighted the café's “amazing atmosphere” as the primary reason to stop by, further noting that the coffee and croissants, while good, shine primarily due to the enchanting surroundings.
In addition to its charming exterior, Costa Vella offers a well-rounded menu that caters to a variety of tastes. One standout recommendation is the Santiago Tart, noted by Sila as a “delicious” option, though perhaps a touch on the sweet side. Pairing it with a non-sweet beverage can elevate your experience, ensuring that each bite is a harmonious delight.
Tanika McKay described the café as a "quiet haven," making it an ideal retreat for those seeking solace. Its well-groomed garden provides a captivating space to unwind, while friendly service enhances the overall experience. Laurence Bérubé encapsulated the essence of Costa Vella as “the most beautiful cafe” he’s encountered, underscoring its peaceful essence.
However, while the ambience and food may shine brightly, some visitors, like Anna S., noted that service could vary. A less attentive waitstaff might pull some experiences slightly off course, but this café’s charm and beauty may very well outweigh such minor drawbacks.
Whether you're in search of a tranquil spot to sip your coffee or a cool twist on traditional pastries, Costa Vella Garden Cafe invites you to experience its unique blend of flavors and serenity. A visit here is more than just a meal; it’s a chance to indulge in a moment of peace, surrounded by nature's beauty and artisanal delights.

In google reviews I trusted! This was an amazing atmosphere, worth the visit alone. The coffee and croissant were just good, not bad or amazing. But, don’t discount the photos, they have actual grapevines growing above the seating which is really fun.

This is a lovely cafe with a really cute garden in the back. The service was very friendly and made our whole experience much better. We decided to sit inside this time because of rain, but I'm definitely planning to sit in the garden during our next visit. The Santiago Tart was delicious, though it might be too sweet for some people, so I'd recommend not ordering anything sweet to drink with it.

Very special place. A bit pricey. Waiters were unattentive, but maybe related to the dark spot where i was sitting.

A beautiful quiet garden cafe. A lovely place to rest and enjoy a coffee while you watch the birds flit between the overhanging grape vines

The most whimsical coffee I have ever visited. When you go to the patio area you feel you are secluded and away from the stressors of life while you enjoy the sounds of the fountain
